Stick it on the additive setting then proceed on clicking everything you missed out the first time around….Plus it leaves the black outline untouched (unless you click it). Dancing around the outline is tough, magic wand is your friend.

oh you have it on lasso, you have to have it polygonal lasso. like you see the little black arrow on the bottom right of the lasso button? Click it and then choose polygonal lasso!
